Alfina has been working with our daughter, E., for about 5 weeks, and I am extremely pleased with E's progress so far. Early on, Alfina conducted assessments on E. to understand her strengths and weaknesses. From that information, Alfina was able to establish a baseline to track E's progress and to tailor the lessons for her. Alfina comes prepare with the tools to make the most of her time with E. I am very impressed with Alfina's depth of knowledge, and her preparation for each lesson. The improvement in E's reading, writing and math skills is evident.

Hello! My name is Marina. Thank you for taking the time to read my bio. Here is a little about my professional experience and education. I received my teaching degree (from Seattle Pacific University) in August 2019 along with my teaching certificate endorsed in elementary education and English Language Arts. I have accumulated experience with older kids of all ages through substitute teaching across subject areas. However, my favorite grades to work with are 6th and up. I have been a substitute teacher for Everett Public Schools, Edmonds School District, Mukilteo School District, Northshore School District, and Northshore Christian Academy. I've also got experience with kids from being a youth camp counselor and an elementary sunday school teacher. When I'm not working with kids I enjoy spending time with friends and family, coffee, painting, reading, and travel. I have been a martial arts student in Lynnwood area for about 5 years. I'm also an attendee of Canyon Hills Church.

I reached out to Marina for tutoring services. Unfortunately she was not available to offer tutoring at the time I requested. Marina however did not stop there, she reached out and offered me such invaluable advice, tools, tips and answered all the questions I had about helping my kindergarten son. It's not every day you come across a teacher who truly loves what they do and are passionate about sharing it. I would hire Marina anytime in a heart beat. She is quick to respond and does what she says she'll do on time.

Private Tutor

Having experienced the challenges of distance learning first-hand, I am deferring my admission to the University of Rochester and spending my gap year "bridging the gap" for younger students! Though you might be reluctant to hire a tutor who only recently graduated high school himself, I have found that teens respond more willingly to instructors with a smaller age gap. You can also rest assured that my academic ability and teaching experience are more than sufficient: in high school I achieved a 4. 0 GPA and 99. 6th percentile SAT score while logging over a hundred hours as a private tutor. My passion for helping others learn has inspired me to pursue a career as a researcher investigating the psychology of education. Every new client of mine receives a two hour free consultation so that I can gauge the student's learning style and develop an individually-tailored plan before anyone pays a dime. I look forward to helping your child meet their academic goals!

Alan has been working with my 7th grade son for about a month now and I never want him to leave! Not only is Alan bright and the most patient teacher and mentor to my son, he has taught me invaluable life lessons in helping me understand my son, who shares a similar learning style to Alan. I cannot recommend Alan enough and am happy to speak with anyone who is considering hiring him - for any job, now or in the future.

FAQs for finding a tutor

How much does it cost to hire a tutor?
If you're looking to hire a tutor for your kids or yourself, the cost will depend largely on what tutoring subject you choose. As a reference, the national average rate for tutors on Care.com is $17.00 per hour as of November 2020.
How can I find a good tutor?
To start your search on Care.com, review profiles for the different tutors in your area and contact those that fit what you are looking for. You will find a description for each tutor sharing details about the subjects they teach, their experience teaching different grades, tutoring kids of different ages, and the services they provide. You can also post a job describing what you need and have the tutors to contact you through the site.
What subjects can the tutors teach?
You will find tutors for almost every grade and subject on Care.com. There are tutors specialized in college subjects, high school, elementary school and even kindergarten. The most popular subjects include math, English, reading, foreign languages, chemistry, and music lessons. We suggest sorting through each tutor's profile to learn about their previous experience with students and the specific subjects that they teach to find the one that fits your individual needs.
How can I prepare for my first session with a tutor?
Before your first session with a new tutor, sit down and do a little preparation so you or your child can get the most out of your tutoring experience. Whether you're studying for a specific test or trying to bump up that math grade, it's important to not only communicate your learning goals and expectations to the tutor, but also to bring up the specific areas you or your child need help with.
